New Squad 2018/19

Regional Youth, Regional Age and Youth

From the start of the 2018/19 season we will wave goodbye to Regional Youth Squad and this will make way for a new improved Performance Squad.

The new Performance Squad will form the peak of the performance pathway within the Borough of Harrow S.C. with Regional Age and County Age sitting below. 

Following this email over the course of this week swimmers and parents that are invited to join this new squad will be invited to meet with myself to discuss through the criteria for this squad to see if this lines up with their commitments for the new season.

Performance Squad Criteria

 Squad Aims & Objectives

To compete at the highest level with total commitment to the squad training program with the Head Coach. Swimmers will be targeting the Home Nations Nationals, British Summer Championships, British Championships (trials) and International competitions and should be prepared to do “all that it takes” to reach the highest levels.

 Ages:    

        Male                      15 years+ (considered 13 & 14 years)             

        Female                  14 years+ (considered 13 years)

 Accepted criteria for entry into squad:

  • A minimum of 11.5 hours (1.5 hours of which being a morning) swim training with at least 1 hour land/gym training.
  • Proven ability and commitment to following a demanding training program (swimmers, with parental support).
  • A positive mind set, with the ability to take personal responsibility for performances.
  • 100% commitment to team events (National League, County/Regional/National relays).
  • Signed and returned copies of Swimmer Code of Conduct & Parents Code of Conduct.
  • A Team player – polite, supportive, caring and empathetic.
  • Consistently attending 90-100% of sessions (Pool and Land).

 Considered criteria for entry into squad:

  • Boys & Girls 13+ to be ranked in the Top 60 in the age groups specified at the British Summer Championships 2018
  • OR: Swimmers assessed by the Head Coach to have near term potential and or having longer term potential may be admitted or retained within a squad on a probationary period of between 3 – 12 months. The swimmer must be able to show commitment and demonstrable progress towards the overall squad criteria and show improvement (based on goal setting) at designated competitions and within training.
  • Short Course Rankings are considered if inside the Top 60, British singular age bands.

 Swimming Training Basic Criteria:

  • Ability to consistently demonstrate 6 fly kicks off all walls/turns in streamline under pressure.
  • Has a full and educated “grasp” on training cycles and sessions; and are able to take full personally responsibility for their efforts in training sessions and is in line with the expectations of the Head Coach.
  • Consistently hold required pace times for 100/200/400 Pace, 25m sprints, Th pace, Critical Speed etc when asked.

 Land Training/Weights Criteria:

  • To commit to land training/gym sessions each week. Any missed without permission must be made up in your own time with the guidance of the Land Training Coach (Daniel).
  • Arrive 10 minutes before each session for pre-pool and stay 6 minutes after each session for stretching.

 Criteria for Squad Exit:

  • Unable to attain the relevant performance standard.
  • Consistently Late to sessions (pool and land) without agreement
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Performance training commitment.
  • Consistently unable to maintain the Performance competition commitment, as per fixtures list.
  • Showing no demonstrable progress towards achieving the required standards for Performance Squad.
  • Training at other clubs or seeking additional coaching/technical sessions outside of the Lead Coaches Planning.

 Pathways:

  • Not meeting criteria – A move into either Youth or Masters Squad.
  • Exit months are December/January & August/September.
