Winter Junior & Senior Championships 2018

The Swim England London Region Winter Junior (16 years & under) & Senior (17 years & Over)  Championships took place 3rd & 4th November 2018, at the London Aquatics Centre, Stratford.

The competition for many of our swimmers followed on from a week long warm weather training camp to Lloret de Mar, Spain. Many of you would be forgiven for thinking that following a week of 10 x 2 hour long course swim sessions and 11 x 1 hour land training sessions that this would slow the swimmers down due to a heavy work load. But, not our squad of resilient swimmers! All those swimmers that completed every swim and land training session, came back and got straight back into their required squad sessions in the UK on the run up to their first major championships of the new season fully reaped the rewards. As a club we saw a fantastic 65% new personal best rate, 9 finalists/top 10, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals! It all so saw the club finish one of its highest placings in this Championships, coming 18th Top Club showing that as a club we punch well above our weight.

Whilst there were many noticeable outstanding performances, listed below, a special congratulations goes to Hazel Macgonigal who achieved her first Winter National Qualification time in a new club record on the 50m Backstroke in a time of 29.90, this follows on from her achieving her first ever Summer Long Course National qualification back in August.
